But again, this isn’t the same thing as ego. Being the very best one can be, fulfilling one’s potential, is not the same as being unhappy that one is not the best, whatever that means. In a way, one shouldn’t take things too seriously. A sense of play and fun should certainly lie at the center of all one’s efforts in the gym (or wherever working out is performed).
