On Off Digital World and the Computers of My Youth
I happened to be at On Off Digital World some time ago and and I was gripped by some powerful flashbacks. You see, that store reminded me of them “mom-and-pop” sort of places from my childhood, back in the days of the wildly popular Commodore 64. I can still recall the ad for one of those C-64 system packages in computer magazines back then, deals that provided both peripherals and software. Those were the days! Big five-inch-plus floppy diskettes, big disk drives, clunky box-like CRTs that weighed about forty pounds at least with small fifteen-inch screens! Really fabulous software in those days, too — and I mean fun, for all the programmers had to work with was a mere 64KB! The ’80s were truly something in every way, but especially when it comes to matters of personal computing!
